Position Summary

The College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is seeking a candidate for the position of a post-doctoral research associate with a strong graduate research experience in integrated photonics and a strong background in quantum information. The candidate will work closely with Profs. Saikat Guha and Zheshen Zhang at the University of Arizona, along with a team of graduate students and postdocs, in topics surrounding quantum communications and optical quantum computing in scalable platforms. Specific desired expertise includes, but is not limited to, integrated photonics in Silicon and other platforms, quantum and nonlinear optics in integrated platforms, and quantum photonic materials. Individuals with interdisciplinary research background are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should hold, by the time of employment, a Ph.D. degree in Optics, Physics/Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and should have demonstrated scientific and technical experience in some of the aforementioned areas. The candidate will work closely with a team of theorists and experimentalists and have an opportunity to advise Ph.D. and M.S. students, on quantum enhanced photonic information processing, with applications to quantum-secured optical communications and quantum computing. The initial contract period will be for two years, and may be renewable based on the availability of funds.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The candidate will engage in experimental research in quantum enhanced photonic information processing with applications to quantum-secured optical communications, with minimal supervision.
  • The candidate will be expected to participate in scholarly discussions with colleagues on new ideas and concepts, work closely with theorists and experimentalists, author journal papers and conference articles, participate in government review meetings, and give talks and seminars on technical topics.
  • The candidate will have the opportunity, if they wish, to participate in writing grant proposals for new projects.
  • The candidate will be expected to supervise undergraduate/MS/PhD students.
  • Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, OR related field relevant to the technical requirements of the position;
  • Previous experience with independent research in quantum optics and integrated photonics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in supervising PhD students and/or junior colleagues.
  • Experience with MATLAB and/or C/C++ for scientific computations.
