Position Summary

The Department of Nutritional Sciences is seeking an energetic, well-organized, and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the molecular mechanisms of dysregulated metal metabolism associated with human diseases including hereditary hemochromatosis, cancer, and neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will have access to state of the art facilities, and will work independently conducting interdisciplinary research utilizing a variety of molecular and cell biology techniques.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Design and conduct molecular and cell biology experiments using cell culture and mouse models.
- Pursue cell biological questions relevant to the function and regulation of metal transporters.
- Maintain detailed records of experiments conducted, organize data, and prepare manuscript.
- Write grant proposal and apply for research funding.
- Maintain lab cleanliness and handle routine waste disposal according to the University guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular & Cell Biology, Genetics, Animal Science, Physiology, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

- At least two years of research experience with mouse models.
- Experience with mouse primary cell culture and immunohistochemistry.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking and follow-through skills.
- Demonstrated ability for technical accuracy and demonstrated capabilities for analyzing and evaluating data.
- Demonstrated knowledge of modern research methods in molecular and cell biology.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing and presentation skills.
