Position Summary

Postdoctoral Position in Neuroprosthetics

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available to develop new methods to restore movements in paralyzed limbs. The project involves application of machine learning methods to control functional electrical stimulation delivered to multiple muscles in temporarily paralyzed non-human primates. We are looking for a colleague with a background in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, motor control physiology, biomechanics, or kinesiology.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Behavioral training of non-human primates.
  • Assist with surgeries to implant electrodes.
  • Plan and perform experiments involving natural and evoked arm and hand movements in non-human primates.
  • Develop algorithms for controlling electrical stimulation of multiple muscles.
  • Analyze and evaluate electromyographic and biomechanical data using Spike2 and Matlab programming environments.
  • Write up manuscripts for publication in scholarly journals.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or other related field, M.D. or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in quantitative analyses and excellent proficiency with Matlab programming language.
  • Experience with experimental testing in awake behaving animals or humans.
  • Demonstrated independent research capabilities with good organizational and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
