Position Summary

University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) is seeking Research Assistants in Tucson or Phoenix who will support a growing federally funded 5-year grant, the All of Us Research Program.

Jointly between the University of Arizona and its clinical partner Banner Health, these activities are part of a national initiative which will contribute significantly to the development of a research cohort that will engage a million or more Americans who volunteer their health data over many years to improve health outcomes, fuel the development of new treatments for disease, and catalyze a new era of data-based and more precise preventive care and medical treatment.

The Research Assistants will work under the supervision of Senior Clinical Research Coordinator(s) and/or Clinical Research Manager(s) to provide support for clinical research daily operations for this multi-site study to ensure successful implementation of and adherence to the clinical research protocol and national and local milestones regarding planning, administration, timeline management, enrollment, participant engagement, specimen and data collection, and reporting.

The selected individuals will contribute to team efforts on clinical research operations including recruitment, informed consent, collection of patient reported data, compliance with study procedures, data collection and documentation, and work closely with the study team and clinical partners.

University of Arizona Health Sciences seeks candidates who will demonstrate interest in clinical research and a passion for interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. The most successful applicants with be those who are bilingual. In particular, we are seeking Spanish speaking individuals.

This position will require travel to one or more sites within the respective metro area on a regular basis (i.e., between our University and South Campus on Ajo Way, or metro area Phoenix). Occasional travel between the two cities may be required with advance notice for training or team meetings.

Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Research Practice:

  • Follow plans and standard operating procedures under the guidance of study leadership to recruit, enroll, consent, collect data, and retain participants.
  • Collaborate effectively with others to ensure proper progress and completion of studies.
  • Under direction and with training, collect and process specimens to meet study requirements, including saliva specimens and intravenous blood samples.
  • Coordinate and participate in monitor visits, audits, and quality reviews (internal and external) in a professional manner.
  • On a periodic basis and with notice, adjust regular working schedule to provide weekend or evening enrollment coverage as needed.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

  • Support the preparation, review, submission and maintenance of regulatory activities/submissions within our team to the national IRB, ensure accuracy and timeliness of distributing regulatory updates to all collaborative parties.
  • Support monitor visits, audits, and quality reviews (internal and external) in a professional manner.

Recruitment/Enrollment/Retention:

  • Implement successful plan in line with approved protocol to identify potential participants for research protocol (advertisements, chart reviews, monitoring of clinic schedule, etc.) and prepare accordingly.
  • Maintain a detailed tracking data entry for participants. Track progress at regular intervals and report out to PI and study team.
  • Following standard operating procedures and guidance, participate directly in recruitment/enrollment.
  • Communicate with participants and families in culturally sensitive manner.

Communication:

  • Compose clear, precise and detailed correspondence.
  • Develop a rapport with study participants.
  • Communicate study-related issues to investigators, study coordinators, clinical team, managers and other institutions in a timely fashion.

Data Management:

  • Perform data entry and validation to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance of data collection process.
  • Maintain master files for clinical research protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis and skill in their application.
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Skill in report writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and possess a valid driver’s license upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual highly preferred (Spanish, Navajo/Diné Bazaad, other).
  • Phlebotomy training and experience.
  • Previous human subjects training (e.g., CITI certification).
  • Demonstrated experience working either on a clinical research project OR in a clinical setting.
  • Strong organization skills and significant attention to detail for data entry.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team, resolving issues with a positive outcome.
  • High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism.
  • Strong communication and computer skills.
