Position Summary

The University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music – Horn (full-time, tenure-eligible). This appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor; successful promotion to Associate Professor with tenure will result in being named the Fred Fox Endowed Chair for French Horn Studies.
The successful candidate will also be an established Artist/Teacher who will, in addition to teaching, recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate horn students and maintain an active profile as a performing artist and teacher. The faculty member will also teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and contribute to mentoring students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds. Faculty in our department also participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. Our faculty also help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and expanding collaborations with community and business partners. The successful candidate will be expected to support the school, the college and the UA in their efforts to advance Inclusive Excellence and the UA diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiative, which was designed to help create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate applied horn, chamber music (including coaching the Fred Fox Graduate Wind Quintet and Fred Fox Graduate Brass Quintet), and pedagogy
  • Conduct weekly studio classes
  • Supervise senior, master’s, and doctoral recitals
  • Mentor graduate students and administer graduate final exams and documents
  • Work closely with Fred Fox School of Music ensemble directors concerning placement and performance of horn students within ensembles
  • Work closely with brass faculty regarding brass seminars, recitals, juries, guest artists, etc.
  • Engage in impactful national and international creative activity and scholarship
  • Forge strong relationships with local teachers and prospective students resulting in successful recruitment through service to the profession
  • Rehearse weekly and perform with the Arizona Faculty Wind Quintet
  • Additional duties may include performing in the Faculty Brass Quintet
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in music
  • Documented history of exceptional professional activity in horn performance (e.g., chamber music, solo, orchestral)
  • Evidence of successful teaching
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain horn students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in music
  • Experience performing in Woodwind Quintet
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the university level
