Position Summary

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Arizona invites applications for a research computing specialist position in the theory of large scale graph visualization, under the direction of Stephen Kobourov. Support for the position is currently available for one year.

Duties & Responsibilities

*Study connections geometry, topology and combinatorics in the context of graphs and graph theory.

*Develop graph analysis and visualization algorithms, with theoretical and practical guarantees.

*Participate in research proposal development.

*Publish research papers in peer-reviewed and visible publications.

*Participates in the design, measurement, collection, sampling and statistical analysis of research data and results.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

*Knowledge of algorithms in general and graph theory and computational
geometry in particular.

*Knowledge of current and emerging computer operating systems, and research-related applications systems, software and hardware.

*Knowledge and ability to implement algorithms and deploy them as
functional systems.

*Knowledge of scientific analysis and statistical methods.

*Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline requiring the use of advanced levels of computational methods and resources, one (1) year of applied research, and one to two (1-2) years of related practical research computing experience; OR,

Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

*Masters degree or ABD (a doctoral candidate who has completed required courses and examinations but not a dissertation) is preferred
for this position.
