Position Summary

Facilities Management is looking to fill a Insulator/Pipe Coverer in our Plumbing Shop. The successful candidate requires Journeyman field experience in performing insulation work on various forms of commercial piping installations including chilled water, steam, hot water, and steam condensate lines. This position requires experience and familiarity with all forms of insulating material and their applications including indoor and outdoor projects. The candidate should be well versed in the estimating process including pricing and procurement of materials and the estimating of labor hours related to in-house projects. This position provides insulation support to 14 plumbers, two pipefitters, all Renovation Services new installations, repairs and replacement projects.

Note: All maintenance employees are required to drive University vehicles on a daily basis as one of their primary job functions.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Applies insulating materials to exposed surfaces of equipment boilers, tanks, hot or cold air ducts or pipes and steam generators for the purpose of insulating, protecting or dampening.
  • Lays out, cuts, forms and shapes insulation.
  • Applies cements, foams and adhesives to insulation.
  • Estimates material and labor for in-house renovation and maintenance projects.
  • Knowledge of the methods and materials for insulating.
  • Skill in fabricating, laying out and installing insulation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Other duties as necessary to serve our customers.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Driver’s license upon employment.
  • At least 2 years of licensed driving experience.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Six years of experience in the layout, fabrication and installation of insulation; OR, completion of a four year federally approved technical training program for pipefitters; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a 4 year technical training program (steamfitter, plumber, or equivalent)
