Position Summary

The Department of Physics invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position. The initial appointment will be for one academic year, and may be renewed on a yearly basis depending on availability of funds and performance. The position will most likely involve teaching two or three physics courses each semester. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience teaching with active learning methodologies and/or candidates with experience in developing online courses and/or candidates with an interest in improving/updating undergraduate laboratories. Salary is commensurate with experience and may be increased if the candidate participates in the development of online courses.

Candidates should have experience with the techniques and topics central to the understanding of Physics.

Our faculty and students are constantly working on a wide variety of topics across all major physics disciplines. We’re exploring the boundaries of what’s known at the largest and smallest scales in the universe and stretching the limits of what’s possible in the manipulation of matter and energy.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities
• Prepare and deliver lectures.
• Prepare, assign, and handle the grading of appropriate assignments, projects, and exams.
• Be available to answer student questions outside of class for a minimum of four hours per week.
• Effectively manage assigned Teaching Assistants in handling work associated with the courses.
• Assist with advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
• Candidate may also be assigned to some departmental committees.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Physics
• Experience teaching at the University level
• Teaching and/or work experience with equipment relevant to the subject
• Experience with the techniques and topics central to the understanding of Physics

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching Physics
• Knowledge and practice of evidence-based active learning methodologies
• Ability to inspire and motivate students
• Dedication to enhancing the undergraduate experience
• Knowledge of the results of physics education research
• Experience in the development of online courses and labs
