Position Summary

The curriculum at the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix places a high priority on early and continuous clinical training. First- and second-year medical students take part in capstones clinical experience weeks, which typically occur immediately following each organ/system based block. Capstones weeks provide students with innovative and clinically focused observational learning experiences in hospital, clinic and laboratory settings, which reinforce content from the preceding organ/system-based block. The UA College of Medicine – Phoenix is looking for a Co-Director to assist in guiding and overseeing the Capstones experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide recruitment strategy and visits for Capstones Course I and II, including developing new model(s), new experiences, and new clinical venues.
  • Provide oversight of clinical experiences planning for the Capstones course team.
  • Provide input to the Director for ongoing assessment and revision, if necessary, to the Capstones Syllabi.
  • Provide input for assessment tools for Capstones experiences.
  • Serve as a reviewer for reflective writing assignments in Capstones I and II.
  • Work with the Director to address student issues which arise regarding Capstones and provide remediation plan for those requiring it.
  • Participate in clinical activities associated with medical student teaching.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, MD or DO.
  • Teaching experience in an academic environment at the undergraduate medical student level in related area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in medical school course administration
  • Experience with multiple teaching methods including lecture, case-based instruction, simulation, independent learning modules, and team based learning in the medical school environment
