This detail-oriented Research Technician will provide technical support to a number of research projects. The successful candidate will perform data collection, data clean up, data analysis, laboratory techniques, and conduct surveys of limited scope requiring initiative and judgement based on knowledge and understanding of scientific theory. Incumbents may be required to travel to remote locations to perform research experiments, surveys and may be required to work with potentially hazardous materials such as toxic chemicals, radiation and/or disease causing organisms.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collect environmental and occupational data and samples.
  • Maintain detailed records of studies conducted, organize data, prepare data for computer input and record computer output.
  • Compile data and generate computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using software packages R and KNIME; make preliminary analyses and assist researchers in interpreting the data.
  • Order laboratory supplies for research and training using University purchasing processes.
  • Conduct library searches to find research related procedures and techniques that can be used in the laboratory and/or field.
  • Write summaries of projects, documenting location, findings and procedures used and assist in writing reports by conducting literature searches and background research; prepare bibliographies as required.
  • Operate laboratory and experimental equipment such as pdr1000, Airbeams, TSI: 3321 ,3091,3080,3788, 3089, centrifuges, vacuum ovens, and others.
  • Develop and maintain database (using tools such as RedCap) of: chemicals, all equipment, including status, and use schedules of each instrument, equipment calibrations, maintenance schedules, costs associated with each instrument, and other trackable laboratory operations.
  • Assist with budget planning and billing related to equipment use.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide technical assistance as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain detailed records of controlled substances used in the laboratory; package waste material and arrange for disposal according to established procedures.
  • Inventory and requisition supplies; may maintain bookkeeping records.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and detail-oriented.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work in teams, and individually.
  • Self-driven and able to continually learn.
  • Ability to handle bodily fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, hair, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Laboratory experience either related to operations, mechanical, sample collection, exposure science or regulatory compliance including EPA, OSHA, FDA product testings.
  • Valid Driver’s license or availability to transportation.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
