Position Summary

The Department of Medical Imaging provides exceptional clinical services where internationally clinical and research faculty provide groundbreaking clinical and scientific research initiatives. The Department provides cutting-edge medical imaging equipment and advanced informatics systems that ultimately improve and drive patient-centered, value-added care to our community. The Department is fully aligned with the University of Arizona Health Sciences strategic initiatives on Precision Health, Neurosciences, Population Health and Health Disparities, employing innovation in imaging sciences and imaging bioinformatics across the areas of focus with the goal of building a nation-leading medical imaging department. The Department of Medical Imaging fosters an environment of collegiality, and innovation in translational research.

The Department is currently accepting applications for a Director of MRI Systems Design and Implementation. The role of the Director will be to oversee the collaboration with business partners and conduct translational research in the broad sense. The Director will also ensure the clinical/research systems are working in sync including protocol optimization.

The Department of Medical Imaging (DMI) clinical operations will move to the new 670,000 square feet Banner University Hospital which will be completed in the Spring of 2019 and it is also expanding its imaging services in the new 200,000 square feet facility at Banner University North Campus about 2 miles from the main campus.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Initiate clinical research in collaboration with industry and business partners.
  • Initiate and drive clinical research studies with collaboration partners. Focus on innovative ideas, new applications or testing of new features.
  • Conduct Translational Research in a broad sense.
  • Collaborate in the planning and design of activities of research and experimental projects of lab.
  • Support the needs of collaborators (including protocol optimization and on-site education on how to adapt techniques and software to clinical requirements).
  • Interact with collaborative developers to facilitate their research needs and achieve measurable success.
  • Stay informed on new developments from industry which might support pertinent research projects.
  • Analyze research workflow and potential image quality improvements together with internal and external collaborators.
  • Participate in testing and validation of new software.
  • Develop and optimize clinical and research protocols.
  • Contribute to publications and inventions.
  • Support diversity initiatives in the department and college.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Solid knowledge of MR physics and imaging sequences, applicable to clinical imaging as well as research applications.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to bridge communications between, technologist, physicists and physicians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • At least two (2) years collaboration management experience with major healthcare provider / University.
  • At least eight (8) years R&D experience contributing to new clinically relevant imaging solutions. Should also include pre-market evaluation and validation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical MR imaging experience at a major healthcare provider.
  • Minimum of five (5) years field applications experience with focus on customer training and development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in offline post processing.
  • Extensive background in MR imaging education.
  • Strong communication skills with emphasis on training, technology and education.
  • Strong clinical knowledge in all specialties of MR imaging.
  • Demonstrated track record of mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting and engaging in campus diversity efforts.
