Position Summary

The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (ACBS) at the University of Arizona is recruiting to fill a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position (70% research, 20% instruction, 10% service). We invite applications from individuals who conduct physiological studies in large animal models to address compelling problems in biomedical sciences and/or agriculture. A candidate whose research program integrates molecular and physiological approaches to carry out high-quality research in physiology, nutrition, or metabolism will be highly competitive.

The candidate will be expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program that complements existing disciplines and faculty in ACBS, as well as cross-disciplinary collaborations, particularly with faculty located on the medical campus. The new faculty member will join a highly productive and innovative group of faculty working to advance areas related to perinatal biology, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and reproduction. Other expectations of this position are to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including a course for majors and an upper level elective in the candidate’s area of expertise, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and serve the academic and professional communities. In these and other ways, the faculty member will help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners. Duties & Responsibilities

• Strengthen and maintain a research program focused on one or more of several priority areas in perinatal biology, reproduction, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity.
• Teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level and contribute to mentoring students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds
• Contribute to school, college, and university service and leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• A PhD or equivalent degree in biological sciences or related field
• A record of creative and significant research that includes experience with large animal physiology
• A strong and sustainable funding record, appropriate to level of appointment
• Teaching and/or mentoring experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstration of collaborative research
• A record of excellence in teaching and mentoring
• Post-doctoral research experience
