The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona seeks a creative scientist with research interests in one or more of the following fields: paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, paleoecology, or paleobiology. In particular, we welcome individuals that use field-based or laboratory-based geochemical, biological, or ecological techniques to develop quantitative records of past climate and environmental change and/or life’s responses to that history. The ideal candidate will use the geological record of past climate and environmental change to make fundamental inferences about paleogeography and/or the Earth’s climate system, enhancing existing strengths in climate, paleoclimate, tectonics, and paleontology in the department. In addition, we seek a candidate who can interface with the strong cross-disciplinary initiatives at the University of Arizona which focus on climate change, sustainability, and water resources. The position is open to applicants at any rank. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses related to their research expertise (e.g., climate, oceanography, paleoclimate, paleoecology, paleontology). The Department of Geosciences seeks faculty who promote diversity in research, education and outreach, and who have experience with a variety of collaborative, teaching and curricular perspectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program, including publishing and presenting their research to the scientific community, and to work with other members of the Geosciences Department and other UA faculty, researchers and students in achieving these goals.
