Position Summary

The College of Optical Sciences is seeking to fill the position of Program Manager – AIM Photonics. The successful candidate will be expected to assist the Principle Investigator (PI) to effectively manage, plan, develop, and coordinate complex scientific/engineering projects involving assets including the Optics Shop, the Nanofabrication facility, and numerous photonic chip testing labs.

This is a year-to-year position expected for at least 18 months with the possibility of extension if funding is identified.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serves as Program Manager on the AIM Photonics Cyrogenic FPA project (Program)
  • Assists the PI in managing the tasks for the program.
  • Assists the PI in tracking progress on tasks for the program.
  • Assists the PI in prioritizing tasks for the program to ensure overall success.
  • Assists the PI in managing project needs, along with all resources, staff, and daily operations of the project, including on-site and off-site meeting planning.
  • Plan tasks for various projects and allocates resources to avoid schedule conflicts.
  • Takes lead in tracking budgets to avoid cost overruns.
  • Take lead to ensure the maintenance of all project contracts and administrative needs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering discipline.
  • US Citizenship- Due to Export Control restrictions.
  • A minimum of 10-years of experience in Engineering Management related to optical and multi-discipline (e.g. opto-mechanical, opto-electrical, electro-mechanical, telescope engineering, telescope manufacturing, and testing of optical systems)
  • Experience with cost, labor, and schedule estimation of large engineering and fabrication projects.
  • Experience in collaborative engineering efforts.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and MS Project.
  • Skills in both oral and written communication.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with US export controls regulations.
  • Experience working with defense department programming.
  • Experience working with suppliers in a prime contractor role
  • Experience in photonics-semiconductors or focal plane array programs.
