Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics is accepting applications for an Accountant, Principal. This position reports to the Manager, Business and Finance. The successful candidate will assist with the management of the Business Office, accounting, budgeting, auditing and other financial or related functions to ensure the financial integrity of the department.

Business Office in the Department works to provide excellent business support to administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervises the day-to-day business functions of the accounting specialist and undergraduate students. These include, but not limited to, disbursements, travel transactions, account maintenance and reconciliation, procurement, fund transfers, payroll, and Pcard transactions.
• Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of financial reports and reconciliation.
• Advises staff regarding procedures concerning expenditures and other accounting practices.
• Completes personnel hiring, job and employee data changes, leaves and termination processing, visa requests and updates, etc.
• Performs all payroll and Human Resources activities.
• Establishes efficient business practices and keeps informed on all rules, regulations, policies, systems, and procedures.
• Tracks expenditures and funding according to budget.
• Fiscal Officer Responsibilities on assigned accounts.
• Prepares and/or directs the preparation of specialized or highly complex reports, statements, surveys or analyses for management.
• Recommends alternatives to supervisor when accounting data indicates trends or situations requiring action to be taken beyond scope of responsibilities.
• Provides technical advice and services to lower level accountants or other university staff with problems, complex issues or special projects.
• Other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and four years of professional accounting experience; OR, eight years of progressively responsible and diverse accounting experience and coursework which included at least four years of professional accounting in which a broad exposure to all areas of accounting and accounting principles, practices and procedures was acquired; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
