Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Donor Relations will assist the Senior Director of Development, the Dean, and the Development Team in the implementation of all development activities in support of the College of Science (COS). This position is jointly managed by the College of Science and the University Development Program (UDP), which is managed under contract by the University of Arizona Foundation (UAF), and will report to the Senior Director of Development with roll-up to the Dean of the College.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Galileo Circle donor society of the COS including oversight of annual membership renewal program, database, scholarship awards process, and faculty Fellow and Copernicus awards program.
  • Plan and coordinate development-related events for the College and the Galileo Circle with a focus on cultivating, stewarding and acknowledging donors.
  • Play an active role in the solicitation of prospective Galileo Circle members.
  • Track and manage timelines, strategy and budgets for development-related events.
  • Participate in the creation of individualized stewardship plans for major gift donors and corporate and foundation donors.
  • Serve as a development liaison to other constituents including alumni, donors, College departments and faculty, and the University Development Program (UDP).
  • Record donor contacts and generate basic reports using Raiser’s Edge donor database.
  • Write, design, edit materials in support of fundraising efforts of the College.
  • Assist in coordinating the annual giving campaign for the Deans’ Fund for Excellence in conjunction with the UDP Annual Giving Office.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Excellent people skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships with donors, prospects, and alumni.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and work within budgetary procedures, policies, and restrictions.
  • Ability to work with academic and administration staff members.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Physical ability to operate basic office machinery (fax machines, computer, telephone, etc.)
  • Proficiency in software programs such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, contact management software such as The Raisers Edge, and email marketing tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to lift boxes, displays and materials for events weighing at least 25 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree; AND
  • Two (2) years of development and/or event management experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license upon and during employment.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy. Local travel will be required; state and national travel as necessary.
  • Availability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • General knowledge of the basic sciences.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge donor database.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating special events.
  • Experience in developing social media outreach.
  • General knowledge of university alumni relations.
