Position Summary

The Navigation Laboratory at the University of Arizona (UA)’s Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) Department is looking for a Research/Laboratory Aide to assist and facilitate the work of lab employees.

Duties & Responsibilities

The candidate will have to maintain and expand the current SIMULINK system that collects data from these sensors and time-tags them on a common clock. Other implementations of the time-tagging implementation can be developed.

Other daily tasks include maintaining lab space, securing and tracking equipment, and updating the Navigation lab’s website.

The candidate will have to coordinate the efforts of the team, including students working on individual sensors, students working on the moving platforms, and students working on designing the operating environment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

The successful candidate is expected to be familiar with primary sensors used by the students, including the VICON infrared camera motion capture system and its ‘Tracker’ software, the Velodyne Lidars HDL-64E and VLP-16 and their data formats, and various IMU’s (MEMS inertial sensors, e.g., IMU-IGM-A1).

The candidate must also be familiar with stochastic methods used in aviation sensor safety evaluation, including experimental data analysis using CDF-overbounding theory.

One year of laboratory/research, field research, or technical maintenance experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
