Position Summary

A full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate I position is available with the Translational Neurotrauma Research Program working on acquired neurological injury. The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to understand the mechanisms of circuit disruption, which include dismantling and reorganization. In particular, this position investigates the role of traumatic brain injury and intracerebral hemorrhage related inflammation and coagulopathy. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has exceptional analytical and communication skills, capacity to work, and a strong background in (neuro)anatomy, biochemistry and molecular biology. Previous experience in neuroscience and/or molecular biology techniques is preferred. The applicant should be detail-oriented, conscientious, able to follow instructions, and have the initiative to start new studies. The position offers the opportunity to work in an exciting research program that investigates all aspects of acquired neurological injury, in the laboratory and the clinic, from behavior to cellular mechanism.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform independent research experiments in collaboration with the principal investigator including the use of biochemical, cell and molecular biology, histological, microscopic, microbiological, and/or animal assays.
  • Perform confocal microscopy, dual photon/multiphoton microscopy, flow cytometry, laser capture microdissection, and associated analysis.
  • Prepare manuscripts, oral presentations, and posters for participation at scientific conferences.
  • Contribute towards daily activities of the laboratory including standard operating procedures and protocol adherence.
  • Train students and staff in the operation of equipment and/or in the performance of technical procedures as directed by the principal investigator.
  • Design and perform experiments, interpret data, analyze results.
  • Present findings, and prepare manuscripts.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Coordination of experiments, analysis, statistics, and interpretation.
  • Grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Physiology, or similar field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with laboratory animals (e.g. rats, mice).
  • Background performing animal surgery.
  • Expertise with maintaining animal breeding colonies and genotyping.
  • Microscopy experience, particularly confocal and dual photon imaging and analysis. .
  • Familiarity with flow cytometry.
  • Experience with histology, immunohistochemistry and protein analysis.
  • Adept at basic computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical and graphing programs (such as Prism, Adobe Photoshop, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.
