Position Summary

A Research/Laboratory Assistant position is available immediately in the Wilson research group in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. We study the developmental and signaling in intestinal epithelial cells using both in vitro and in vivo approaches.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine has established research excellence in five major focus areas including cardiovascular biology and diseases, complex disease biology and genetics, cancer cell biology, cell polarity and intracellular trafficking, and genome function. Duties & Responsibilities
  • General lab maintenance, including preparation of stock solutions.
  • Perform standard laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures, biochemical methods such as SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, tissue processing and microspopy.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as filing, typing, labeling; inventory and requisition supplies and materials.
  • Maintain detailed records of controlled substances in the laboratory; package waste material and arrange for disposal according to established procedures.
  • Follow established procedures to prepare solutions, media and reagents using arithmetical calculations for measuring; perform library research to find appropriate procedures, as required.
  • Clean glassware and other laboratory equipment or materials using appropriate standards; keep laboratory area clean.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in laboratory and research work.
  • Knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Skill in recording research data.

Three years of related laboratory or field research experience; OR,any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS or BA in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and/or Chemistry.
  • One year research laboratory experience either as an undergraduate or post-degree.
