Position Summary

A Postdoctoral Research Associate I, position is available in the Brooks laboratory in the Department of Physiology. The successful candidate will work in the lab of Dr. Heddwen Brooks. Our lab studies the role the immune system plays in determining the development of hypertension in postmenopausal females and how kidney function is impacted. In addition we are conducting drug development studies targeting kidney damage.

Papers related to both of these projects have recently been published. The lab has facilities for molecular analysis of tissue gene expression, proteomics/western blot/immunohistochemistry along with in vivo studies of renal function and blood pressure regulation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform in vivo blood pressure regulation experiments, and/or renal function at a post-doctoral level under the direction of supervisor.
  • Design, analyze and summarize experimental results.
  • Submit experimental results for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present talks or posters at national or international scientific meetings.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research.
  • Contribute to the organization and running of a research laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Physiology, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering or other related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior research experience in two or more of the following areas: telemetry or tail cuff recordings, small animal surgical skills, RNA/protein preparation, renal analysis of protein expression via IF/IHC.
  • Peer reviewed primary author publications in the field of physiology.
