The University of Arizona is accepting applications for a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security Officer. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer and collaborating closely with the HIPAA Privacy Officer, this position will be responsible for developing and managing information security policies, procedures, and technical systems for protecting HIPAA regulated data. This position provides hands-on technical expertise and collaborative leadership skills to assist UA Tucson and Phoenix Colleges of Medicine and other campus units working with regulated PHI, ensuring consistency of policies, technical solutions, procedures and incident response for HIPAA related incidents.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Evaluate, recommend, and provide technical leadership for the implementation of security measures to protect HIPAA regulated data.
•Contribute expertise to discussions and planning for overall IT security architecture for the University.
•Provide HIPAA security domain expertise and leadership for distributed campus IT security managers.
•Related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

•Requires expert knowledge of HIPAA security requirements.
•Must possess excellent analytical skills and an understanding of a risk-based approach to securing institutional resources.
•Experience with Windows, Linux/UNIX, network systems, databases, and virtual and cloud computing environments.
•Strong technical skills and experience.
•Strong working knowledge of security issues pertinent to health care in a higher education environment.
•Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
•Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Initiative, optimism, flexibility, integrity and follow through.
•Ability to advocate, influence, and persuade others.

Minimum Qualifications

•Requires Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience or substantially equivalent educational and job-related experience.
•Evidence of effective skills in facilitation, creative problem solving and a team-based approach to achieving success in a highly technical environment.
•Excellent analytical, time management, organizational, and supervisory skills.

Preferred Qualifications

•Five or more years of information security experience in a health care environment.
•Experience working in higher education.
•Hands-on experience with GRC and CASB software.
•Evidence of continued formal or self-directed education to maintain technical currency.
