Position Summary

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is seeking candidates for the Education and Training Specialist position. This position will help to align strategic planning to increase the role the department plays in medical education.

The department is seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students, trainees and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of delivery methods and curricular perspectives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive audit of the undergraduate medical education curriculum to capture the current topics and teaching methods pertaining to cultural competency, structural competency, health disparities, and health inequities related to racial/ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ+ and other populations.
  • Develop and recommend curriculum utilizing the latest research and best practices related to cultural competency, structural competency, health disparities, and health inequities to be adopted in K-12 pipeline programs, undergraduate medical education curriculum, and graduate medical education curriculum.
  • Work with faculty/curriculum committee to consolidate and make available educational tool-kits and resources for educators and trainers.
  • Design, develop and deliver a menu of on-line and in-person diversity education and training for students, faculty, resident, fellows and staff which will include current and new programming.
  • Assist students on scholarly projects related to topics consistent with the mission of the of Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to design, develop and deliver diversity topics to staff.
  • Evidence of collaboration with other professionals or faculty members in the planning and design of activities of the project or program of the academic department, division, or section, such as:
    • Pathway Scholars Program – Provide training and education related to cultural competency, structural competency, health disparities, and health inequities related to racial minorities, women and LGBTQ+ populations for the Student Liaisons.
    • Faculty Development – Develop and implement training for faculty and faculty search committees related to cultural competency, structural competency, health disparities, and health inequities related to racial minorities, women and LGBTQ+ populations.
  • Prepare and provide support for research proposals or presentation in the specific area of expertise of the Education and Training Specialist, and co-author or have significant participation in the writing of papers for publication, reports or present data relevant to specific program/project.
  • May supervise activities of subordinates.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to assist with maintaining and/or planning, developing and implementing studies, programs or projects as required by the appointment, e.g., research, educational development, or instructional support in the areas of basic/clinical science, graduate medical education and faculty training.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and educational structure of the medical discipline ranging from medical school, resident training through subspecialty fellowships.
  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of the national accreditation system for graduate medical education.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field AND a minimum of five (5) years related experience in research education development, instructional support, or curriculum design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidience of contributions and collaboration in publication, reports or presentation.
