The Admissions Counselor, Transfer position is a part of the Undergraduate Recruitment Team. This is a first-line professional position responsible for recruitment and outreach activities in Arizona, based in Tucson with a primary focus of Pima Community College.

The Admissions Counselor, Transfer position is responsible for interpreting and communicating University admissions policies, academic policies and requirements, and student service policies and procedures to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, community college administrators, advisors, faculty and staff. This role provides academic counseling and support to prospective transfer students, working in conjunction with University advisors, faculty and staff. The Admissions Counselor, Transfer frequently coordinates the recruitment activities of Colleges and schools within the University, and is responsible for the execution of institutional recruitment and outreach. This position is also responsible for proper expenditure of budget resources for programs, publications and travel. The Admissions Counselor, Transfer position requires interactive supervision and regular communication in the performance of daily routine.

Note: Frequent in-state and limited out-of-state travel is required. This includes, but is not limited to, rural community colleges throughout Arizona and trips out-of-state to cover national transfer fairs. This position involves long periods of extensive driving and participation at college and career fairs, with long periods of floor time and the lifting of boxes. Duties also involve participation in evening and weekend programs. Candidate will have access to a fleet vehicle for out-of-town travel, while local travel is to be done in candidate’s own vehicle.

Duties & Responsibilities

● Represent the University of Arizona to a broad range of constituents at college fairs, community colleges, and any other recruitment program or activities including, but not limited to, personnel in community based organizations, members of state and local government and the educational community at large
● Assist with the evaluation of transfer student recruitment activities to ensure that the services and opportunities offered through transfer programs reflect the institution’s mission and commitment to the quality of undergraduate education
● Searches on a consistent basis for new and unique opportunities for student interaction and engagement
● Performs pre-evaluation of transcripts for admission purposes, interviews, advises, and communicates with prospective transfer students regarding academic and curricular issues
● Refers students to academic support services at the community colleges and at the University
● Develops, implements, and evaluates new and inclusive transfer recruitment initiatives to encourage and support the recruitment of Pima Community College students
● Responds to inquiries from prospective transfer students, freshmen, and other constituents regarding the admission process and procedures, the transferability of credit and related academic information
● Maintains records documenting advising discussions and recommendations related to prospective freshman and transfer students
● Assists in the growth of the UA Bridge program by sharing the benefits and requirements of the program with appropriate transfer students and community college personnel
● Designs, recommends, and executes short and long-term strategies to achieve recruitment goals within their territory
● Submits regular reports of student contacts to supervisor
● Serves as a pivotal member of the college community by developing and maintaining close contact with university personnel, particularly student service personnel and academic advisors, to accurately convey the academic, cultural and social environment of the University
● Develops, utilizes and stays current with a variety of publications and nonprofit marketing tools and strategies for the purpose of meeting institutional freshman and transfer enrollment objectives.
● Serves as an on-duty counselor on a weekly basis via phone and/or on UA main campus
● Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

● Completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application is required
● At least 2 or more years of work experience post-college graduation required (preferably in outreach, recruitment, admissions, public relations, education, etc.)
● Valid driver’s license with a minimum of two years of driving experience
● Ability to drive to local community colleges and other venues for visits and fairs; some overnight travel will also be required
● Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with a diverse group of people within Enrollment Management, across campus, and outside of the University
● Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, and public speaking skills

Preferred Qualifications

● Knowledge of admission and recruitment practices in higher education
● Knowledge of transfer student issues and community college systems
● A broad understanding of higher education both locally and nationally, and the value of higher education and the people it can and does serve
● Experience with and connection to the Tucson community
● Demonstrated success using various office software programs including customer relationship management (CRM) software, as well as student information systems
● Ability to manage time effectively and function as an independent staff member when needed
● Ability to perform all duties according to the highest customer service standards while exhibiting professionalism, respect, and teamwork at all times
