Position Summary

The Department of Family and Community Medicine invites applicants for a part-time Research Technician position. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual that wants to be part of a research team, that involves implementing a tobacco cessation program in the context of behavioral health. This position may include phone surveys with participants, data entry, and assisting with subject recruitment at primary care and specialty clinics. The successful candidate will work with potential study participants on-site to provide information as well as facilitate participant communication with the research team.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for data collection, organization, entry using a number of data bases, output, quality assurance; assist in preparation of data for analysis. These activities require adherence to specific procedures and protocols.
  • Work with study participants and persons inquiring about the study in-person or by telephone to provide information and facilitate participant communication with the research team.
  • Conduct telephone interviews with clients and trainees, and manage the telephone follow-up interview process.
  • Maintain detailed records of activities and contacts.
  • Conduct literature searches at the direction of Research Specialists and maintain references using designated reference management software.
  • Write summaries of projects, documenting location, findings and procedures used.
  • Assist in writing reports by conducting literature searches and background research; prepare bibliographies as required.
  • Provide peer support to participants with behavioral health concerns that influence their participation in the study.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and management.
  • Skill in identifying issues and solutions in data collection, entry and storage.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Arizona Certified Peer Support Specialist (Prefer U of A certification with the Integrated Health Endorsement).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, An associate degree with two years research or behavioral healthcare experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience.
