Position Summary

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine has established research excellence in five major focus areas including cardiovascular biology and diseases, complex disease biology and genetics, cancer cell biology, cell polarity and intracellular trafficking, and genome function. We pursue excellence through teaching in the medical curriculum in graduate and undergraduate courses, through the pursuit of leading edge biomedical research, and through service to the University, local community and the nation.

We are searching for full-time Senior Research Specialists to conduct and supervise high throughput in situ hybridization in chicken embryos, and to curate data from the published literature in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. Dr. Antin’s laboratory is concerned with understanding the molecular regulation of early developmental processes in vertebrate embryos. We primarily use the chicken embryo/as a model organism, and approach research questions from the dual perspective of how individual molecules function.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform and supervise in situ hybridization studies on chicken embryos.
  • Perform molecular cloning techniques and other complex research work. Independently review literature to design appropriate research methodologies, techniques, and procedures.
  • Assist in planning and developing new in situ hybridization technologies, establishing priorities and recommending schedules, time tables and costs.
  • Perform complex statistical analysis which includes selecting appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, and producing written reports on the results of the analysis.
  • Co-author or author research papers and manuscripts for publication and present them at conferences and workshops.
  • Attend regular staff/group meetings, manage and maintain lab equipment, coordinate the use of laboratory space and equipment.
  • Perform other administrative functions such as maintaining records and inventories.
  • Supervise the activities of subordinates.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Background and proficiency in molecular biology techniques.
  • Knowledge of chicken embryology, prior experience manipulating chicken embryos.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Effective communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot procedures.
  • Ability to keep thorough data records.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three years of related research experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and four years of related research experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
