Position Summary

The Natural Products Center is seeking a highly motivated and independent individual with a track record of research achievements to become a key member of the team involved in identifying specialty co-products and value-added products from guayule and guar. This Center is located off-campus at 250 E. Valencia Road in Tucson. Candidates must have a doctoral degree, first-author peer-reviewed publications and expertise in natural product isolation and identification. The successful candidate will conduct research on a multi-center interdisciplinary project on “Sustainable Bioeconomy of Arid Regions” funded by the USDA.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Isolate and identify major metabolites and biologically active small-molecule natural products from guayule and guar
• Designs and performs conversion of major metabolites into value-added products by chemical and microbial transformations
• Give presentations at group meetings and scientific meetings, writes progress reports, prepare publications for peer-reviewed journals
• Collaborates with others involved in the project and helps supervise graduate and undergraduate students working on the project.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in natural products chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry
• Competitive peer-review publications record applicable to the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in biosynthesis of natural products
• Expertise in conducting antimicrobial assays
