The Dean of Students Office (DOS) is comprised of diverse departments serving the personal and academic needs of all students. Position Summary
The Coordinator, Assessment & Research, will guide assessment-planning efforts and directly support the assessment of all areas within the Dean of Students (DOS) office, which includes Parent & Family Programs, Fraternity & Sorority Programs, Student Governance & Programs, Student Assistance & Accountability, Veteran Student Services, and Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement.

The ideal candidate must be experienced with quantitative and qualitative research methods and have the ability to analyze data and succinctly translate them into actionable data-informed insights to support further understanding about the impact of programs and services on student learning, retention, graduation, and post-graduation outcomes.

This position will require a high level of collaboration with key stakeholders, including, but not limited to DOS staff, divisional leadership, UA staff/faculty partners, students, parents, alumni groups, and University Analytics & Institutional Research.

The DOS Assessment & Research Coordinator will have dual reporting lines to the Assistant Vice President, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and Dean of Students, as well as to the Director of Assessment & Research. Work may include occasional weekend and evening hours

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute short and long-term assessment plans that account for all stages of the assessment cycle
  • Consult with DOS staff members on a wide range of assessment and evaluation topics
  • Extract, manage, and analyze data retrieved from UAccess analytics (institutional data) along with DOS program and service data
  • Manage and analyze data through the use of Excel (pivot tables, statistical functions, etc.), SPSS, SAS, or other statistical analysis software while ensuring data integrity
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities to cultivate assessment capacity among DOS staff
  • Regularly develop and disseminate utility-focused summaries of data-informed insights that are tailored for a wide range of key stakeholders
  • Prepare visualizations of data to explain, persuade, and tell a compelling story
  • Coordinate the annual reporting efforts on behalf of DOS
  • Conduct assessment and research through an inclusive lens, which involves recognizing the talents, worldviews, perceptions, cultures and skills that diverse communities bring to the educational enterprise that can be harnessed to assess programs and services that are designed for a diverse student community
  • Participating in DOS staff meetings, as requested
  • Participate in Assessment & Research team meetings, predictive analytics team meetings (Civitas), and occasionally assist with facilitating/co-facilitating A&R sponsored trainings
  • Represent DOS on university committees and at campus functions
  • Other duties and projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4+ years of related experience in higher education, research, and/or program evaluation
  • Experience in assessment, research, and evaluation, including but not limited to program evaluation design, developing logic models, data management, assessing student learning, tracking usage data, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and of major trends and issues around college students needs including factors that promote student success, retention, and graduation
  • Strong communication skills, including business and technical writing skills and effectively delivering presentations
  • Well-developed skills in organization, time management, analytical reasoning and decision making
  • The ability to cultivate strong working relationships within DOS and across campus
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and successfully perform duties autonomously/independently, as well as using a team approach, in a high traffic and multi-tasked work environment
  • Proficient in using statistical analysis software such as SPSS, SAS, or another statistical analysis software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education, social sciences, information sciences, applied mathematics, statistics, or other related fields and 2+ years of related experience
  • Experience in managing and analyzing institutional data
