Position Summary

University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) is seeking Clinical Research Coordinators in the Tucson metro area to support a new federally funded 5-year grant, the All of Us Research Program..

Jointly between the University of Arizona and its clinical partner Banner Health, these activities are part of the national Precision Medicine Initiative which will contribute significantly to the development of a research cohort that will engage a million or more Americans who volunteer their health data over many years to improve health outcomes, fuel the development of new treatments for disease, and catalyze a new era of data-based and more precise preventive care and medical treatment.

The Coordinators will work under the supervision of clinical research management to provide project coordination and clinical research daily operations for this multi-site study to ensure successful implementation of and adherence to the clinical research protocol and national and local milestones regarding planning, administration, timeline management, enrollment, participant engagement, data collection, and reporting.

The selected individuals will be responsible for clinical research operations including engagement, enrollment, informed consent, collection of participant reported data, compliance with study procedures, data collection and documentation, and work closely with the study team and clinical partners. This position will work closely with national efforts to support retention of cohort participants.

University of Arizona Health Sciences seeks candidates who will demonstrate competence in clinical research and a passion for interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. The most successful applicants with be those who are bilingual. In particular, we are seeking Spanish speaking coordinators.

This position will require travel to one or more sites within this metro area on a regular basis. With notice, occasional travel to our other primary sites (e.g., Casa Grande or Phoenix) and, less frequently, out-of-state travel may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Research Practice:

  • Follow plans and standard operating procedures under the guidance of study leadership to engage, enroll, consent, collect data, and retain participants.
  • Work efficiently in a variety of enrollment settings including Outpatient clinics, Inpatient floors, Emergency Department, Clinical Research Units and Community Engagement Events.
  • Collaborate effectively with others to ensure proper progress and completion of enrollment visits.
  • Collect, document, process and ship specimens to meet study requirements, including urine, saliva specimens and intravenous blood samples.
  • Coordinate and participate in monitor visits, audits, and quality reviews (internal and external) in a professional manner.
  • On a periodic basis and with notice, adjust regular working schedule to provide weekend or evening enrollment coverage as needed.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation

  • Coordinate and participate in monitor visits, audits, and quality reviews (internal and external) in a professional manner.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate written and electronic records to support clinical research activities.

Recruitment/Enrollment/Retention:

  • Implement successful plan in line with approved protocol to identify potential participants for research protocol (advertisements, chart reviews, monitoring of clinic schedule, etc.) and prepare accordingly.
  • Maintain a detailed tracking data entry for participants. Track progress at regular intervals and report out to PI and study team.
  • Following standard operating procedures, participate directly in recruitment/enrollment.
  • Proactively take initiative to ensure recruitment stays on track with the project timelines.
  • Communicate with participants and families in culturally sensitive manner.

Communication:

  • Compose clear, precise and detailed correspondence.
  • Develop a rapport with study participants.
  • Communicate study-related issues to investigators, clinical research managers, study coordinators, clinical team, and other institutional leadership in a timely fashion.
  • Document, organize and maintain all correspondence.

Data Management:

  • Perform data entry and validation to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance of data collection process.
  • Maintain master files for clinical research protocols.
  • Prepare and review reports, tables, and listings.
  • There may be other duties assigned as it relates to this position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree and three (3) years direct clinical research experience; OR
    Medical Assistant/Lab Technician certification and (3) years direct clinical research experience; OR
    RN, LPN, LVN and two (2) years of direct clinical or medical laboratory experience; OR
    Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year direct clinical research experience; OR
    CRA, CCRA Certification
  • Willing to be trained in phlebotomy.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license with two years of driving experience and reliable transportation with proper Arizona registration and vehicle insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience managing, organizing and entering patient data in various databases.
  • Fluent in speaking, reading and writing Spanish.
  • Previous human subjects training (e.g., CITI certification) and two years’ experience as a research coordinator with direct recruitment and enrollment responsibilities.
  • Current Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) status.
  • Six (6) years’ experience in clinical research and training; OR Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and two years related research experience (Health or biological sciences related field).
  • Demonstrated experience in Phlebotomy and/or certified Phlebotomist.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records.
