Position Summary

The Library Information Associate, Senior works in collaboration and provides leadership in the coordination and enhancement of Library services, specifically in the areas related to Reference & Information Services, Learning Services Platform, assessment, and cutting-edge maker technology.

The incumbent regularly attends and participates in conferences or user group meetings bringing back information for department environmental scanning and strategic planning processes; provides analysis support of a wide variety of data to management and makes recommendations for process improvements to improve customer and workflow efficiencies. Provides courteous customer service, information, reference and technology assistance. Cultivates and maintains relationships with both internal and external customers.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (Reference/Instructional Design focus)

Sunday-Thursday 1pm-10pm (Learning Services Platform/Assessment focus)

Sunday – Thursday 9am–6pm (Technology/Student Management focus)

Sunday – Thursday 4pm–1am (Technology/Student Management focus)

Sunday – Thursday 3pm–12am (Reference/Student Management focus)

This position works in an environment where department members are located in five libraries across campus: Main, Science-Engineering, Special Collections, Fine Arts and Health Sciences working 24/5 and weekends for the purpose of supporting the education and research needs of customers and for promoting a safe and secure learning environment in the various libraries. The incumbent supports the library in its mission and vision in providing excellent customer service, and by serving on library-wide projects, and by improving student awareness of the suite of services and resources offered by the library through participation in campus public programming, student education and success events. As customers’ needs change, the assignments, work and hours may change.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, implementation, and management of all AIS training and eLearning content, utilizing specialized software to create online learning objects and assisting with overall assessment of the eLearning program. This includes collaborating with the Reference Team on developing all types of training content for student training, aiding in the optimization of public services, providing feedback to desk staff regarding their coordination of student employees, and independently addressing both difficult customer interactions and student employee concerns. (Reference/Instructional Design focus)
• Ongoing maintenance and oversight of the Library Services Platform (LSP) including troubleshooting routine access issues and providing support to staff for system downtime and recovery, managing system training and liaison with third party vendors as needed. (Learning Services Platform focus)
• Ongoing collection, management and analysis of departmental and library use assessment data including data required for departmental, library projects and strategic planning. (Assessment focus)
• Management, training, and program delivery for physical and virtual maker technology, such as 3D printers and scanners, laser cutters, CNC routers, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and both augmented and virtual reality. Specifically, this position will be responsible for reviewing and updating the content for technology-related training and users certification. This role also includes acting as a liaision with AIS training/pedagogy staff, R&L librarians (Main and UAHSL) and IT; provides management support for AIS Technology student employees. (Technology/Student Management focus)
• Lead investigation and acquisition of cutting-edge hardware, software, and maker technology; including acting as a liaison with library and campus IT as needed. (Technology/Student Management focus)
• Responsible for management of 20-22 part-time student employees. Demonstrates leadership, supervision, and performance management skills in managing student employees. Part of this responsibility includes budget development/management and demonstrating effective communication with various individuals (i.e. desk staff, supervisors and accountants) to ensure tasks are performed correctly. This position also supports the Library Operations Supervisor by problem solving issues affecting service sites, collections or customers; assists in ensuring that opening and closing policies and procedures are established and followed; proactively communicating updates to desk providers and alerts regarding the Main Library Information Commons service site; assists the Reference Team in student employee competency and training development. (Reference/Student Management focus)
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Utilizes specialized instructional/training software to provide leadership by planning, coordinating, designing and implementing all AIS eLearning. The incumbent will design, implement and manage the AIS CMS and all related eLearning content, and work with Library Analyst(s) and senior leadership on the assessment of the training program(s). This also includes assisting with employee competency and training development.
• Uses web development software, and effectively manages all AIS related content on the UA Libraries website, including creating webpages, updating webpages and library maps, and attending regular meetings with the website steering group.
• Utilizing specialized assessment software, the incumbent will work collaboratively with Library Analyst(s) and senior leadership on the collection, analysis, and communication of library assessment data as well as support for the LSP enterprise system.
• Co-leads daily operations of the iSpace. Support student manager in the direction of 6-8 part-time student employees. Demonstrates leadership, supervision, and performance management skills in managing student employees. Part of this responsibility includes budget development/management and demonstrating effective communication with various individuals (i.e. desk staff, supervisors and accountants) to ensure tasks are performed correctly.
• Works in collaboration to support AIS strategic planning activities by keeping abreast of trends specifically related to AIS services across all libraries. This involves assisting with department data collection and analysis to demonstrate the quality of our work and continually improve customer access.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced/ multi-tasking environment prioritizing tasks and responding positively to unanticipated changes while exhibiting follow through and flexibility under demanding circumstances. This involves the ability to work proactively and constructively to identify, define and solve problems with customers and colleagues within the unit and library-wide.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including evidence of excellent initiative, organizational and time management skills; evidence of the use of good judgment and solid analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Experience creating online learning objects with eLearning software such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Presenter, or other e-learning software.
• Experience working with a Course Management System (CMS), preferably Desire2Learn as well as screen casting and other web-based presentation software.
• Experience gathering and analyzing internal and external data (both qualitative and quantitative) and knowledge of advanced data collection and information research methods, including the knowledge of specialized data analysis software (e.g., Tableau, NVivo, SPSS, LibAnalytics, Excel and Qualtrics).
• Evidence of a high degree of computer/digital fluency (hardware and software). This includes demonstrated use of Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite (current version) as well as familiarity with library technology, including demonstrated skills in troubleshooting hardware, software and equipment, and ability to acquire new technology skills (e.g., Virtual Reality, 3D and other makerspace technology such as laser cutters, CNC routers, Arduino and Raspberry Pi).
• Experience recruiting, hiring, scheduling, training, approving payroll, developing and tracking wage budget
and daily supervision of part-time employees (e.g., student assistants).
• Ability to work collaboratively creating effective training documentation and train and evaluate individuals based on established work expectations; including providing feedback to both students and full-time employee.
• Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to work with in an inclusive environment that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives. This includes the ability to work with diverse people and serve a diverse population, as well as taking a proactive approach to meeting customer needs, and initiating effective interventions that result in customer satisfaction.
• Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, tact, discretion, and good judgement as well as skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships.
• Experience providing public and reference services (in-person and virtual), utilizing the reference interview process to determine customer need, in an academic, research or large public library. This involves understanding the research and references process as well as a broad understanding of various types of reference sources (e.g., library catalog, indexes, web-scale discovery services, search engines, virtual and print resources) and their appropriate uses, including understanding the differences between primary and secondary resources.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree AND three years progressively responsible library experience; OR seven years progressively responsible library, information center or related work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience searching integrated Library Services and Discovery Platforms including record interpretation, preferably Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
• Skill in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations.
• Process Improvement, Cost and Systems Analysis, and Project Management skills and experience.
• Experience working in an academic library, specifically in reference, access or user services.
