Position Summary

Data7 Institute seeks a Bioinformatics/Research Computing Specialist.

The job location is at the main campus at 1657 E Helen St. Tucson, AZ 85721.

Data7 plays a key role in connecting UA researchers involved in the computational and informatics realm with those in domain sciences to align institutional expertise, computational resources and infrastructure to achieve outcomes not easily attainable as individual investigators or within purely disciplinary teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze bioinformatics data using software packages, statistical applications, or data mining techniques, including genome scale de novo sequence assembly, sequence alignment, RNASeq differential expression analysis and functional annotation, construction of custom genomes; using the knowledge of large scale genomic data analysis, High Performance Computing systems , R/BioConductor packages and development of software for scientific applications, visualization, and web interfaces.

• Maintain and update software programs, analysis pipelines, and sequence databases on High Performance Computing systems; using the knowledge of large scale genomic data analysis, High Performance Computing systems , R/BioConductor packages and development of software for scientific applications, visualization, and web interfaces.

• Maintain awareness of new and emerging computational methods and technologies pertaining to statistical experiment design, gene ontology analysis, pathway analysis, and R/Bioconductor packages; using the knowledge of large scale genomic data analysis, High Performance Computing systems , R/BioConductor packages and development of software for scientific applications, visualization, and web interfaces.

• Conduct quality assessments of data inputs and resulting analyses and contribute to Standard Operating Procedure documents; using the knowledge of large scale genomic data analysis, High Performance Computing systems , R/BioConductor packages and development of software for scientific applications, visualization, and web interfaces.

• Enter, retrieve, and interpret information from structural databases, protein sequence motif databases, mutation databases, genomic databases or gene expression databases and be able to analyze cancer or disease related data; using the knowledge of large scale genomic data analysis, High Performance Computing systems , R/BioConductor packages and development of software for scientific applications, visualization, and web interfaces.

• Perform Microarray Expression analysis, SNP-chip data analysis, and 450K Methylation data analysis; using the knowledge of large scale genomic data analysis, High Performance Computing systems , R/BioConductor packages and development of software for scientific applications, visualization, and web interfaces.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

o A Master’s Degree in bioinformatics or equivalent
o One year of experience in the field of Bioinformatics, and high Performance Computing for Biomedical Data Analysis
