Research, Discovery & Innovation seeks a proactive and enthusiastic professional for the position of Accountant. The successful candidate will perform professional accounting duties that include initiation and approval of financial transactions, reconciliation of accounts, and preparation of financial reports. This position will require the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Skills sought for this position include accuracy, great attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills, effective time management, and effective organizational skills. The successful candidate will possess proficient accounting skills, enjoy being challenged, have a knack for problem solving and the ability to meet deadlines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reconcile and manage RDI financial commitments and accounts from various fund sources.
  • Perform data analyses; review financial transactions for accuracy and appropriateness; take action or recommend appropriate action.
  • Advise account managers on university policies and procedures and interpret financial information.
  • Prepare and review financial reports to monitor account activity; investigate, correct, and resolves issues, and assure compliance to university, sponsor and RDI regulations.
  • Prepare standard and non-standard accounting reports such as detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts and projections, and assist in preparation of special accounting studies.
  • Keep informed by researching and reviewing procedures in assigned functional areas.
  • Use independent judgment in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions.
  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting and business procedures, practices, and controls related to assigned area of work and other office functions.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as it relates to the position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficient in MS Office Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related area with accounting course work AND one year of professional accounting experience; OR, five years of progressively responsible and diverse accounting experience and course work, which includes at least one year of professional accounting, in which a broad exposure to all areas of accounting and accounting principles, practices and procedures was acquired; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with UAccess Analytics & Financials.
  • Experience with the UA budget systems.
  • Experience with account management and research proposals and awards.
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with multiple stakeholders across multiple internal organizations.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
