Position Summary

The Department of Academic Affairs at the College of Medicine – Phoenix is looking for a Longitudinal Case Based Instruction Facilitator. The Facilitator will provide consistent formative and summative student feedback. The facilitator will deliver a professional model for collaboration, giving and receiving constructive feedback, recognizing limitations of personal knowledge and the skills to effectively address those needs, respect for the contributions of others, and appropriate participation, initiative and cooperation as a member of the team. As an educator, this individual will design and deliver interactive sessions in the curriculum domain, author examination questions and be involved in the ongoing improvement of the educational experience at the college.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participate as a longitudinal case-based instruction facilitator.
  • Facilitate weekly case-based instruction sessions (approximately 3-4 hours per week x 15-20 weeks per MS-1 and/or MS-2 class).
  • Attend weekly case briefings (approximately 1-2 hours per week for each case facilitated).
  • Assess students in facilitator groups on-line approximately every 3-5 weeks for those cases facilitated.
  • Participate as a Case Based Instruction Subcommittee (CBIS) member.
  • Attend monthly meetings (2 hours per month).
  • Review / improve current cases between meetings.
  • Author new cases between meetings.
  • Train others in case authoring.
  • Ensure appropriate longitudinal case rigor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to educate future clinicians in a modified problem-based learning environment.
  • Experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students, trainees, and colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree with patient care experience.
  • Experience in a medical education environment.
  • If the individual selected for employment does NOT currently hold a faculty title with The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, he/she will be required to obtain faculty status. This will include obtaining letters of recommendation and review by the appropriate College review committee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Primary care physician.
  • Experience with case based or problem based learning.
  • Experience with medical student advising and/or mentoring.
  • Established expertise in working with diverse communities.
