Position Summary

The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate I. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will perform research on Fast Integrations in Computational Astrodynamics, specifically related to the application of Recurrent Neural Networks to learn Dynamical Systems. Efforts will be focused on the development of computational tools for learning the propagation error between simplified and high-fidelity dynamical models, for the exploration and simulation of the orbital and attitude dynamics in cislunar space. Collaboration with members of the (Space Situational Awareness) SSA-Arizona team is expected.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop new model and simulation capabilities for addressing the needs of astrodynamics-based space situational awareness.
  • Construction of recurrent neural network algorithms that can be trained in the modeling of nonlinear dynamical systems.
  • Perform analysis and summarize findings in conference proceedings and journal publications.
  • Expected to write and participate in research proposals.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of numerical methods and advanced propagation routines in astrodynamics.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Software proficiency in Fortran, Python, and MatLab.
