Position Summary

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Specialist to provide dedicated clinical trials support. This position is responsible for coordinating and conducting psychometric testing for currently active and opening clinical trials in the Department of Neurology in multiple fields, including movement disorders, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Within the Department of Neurology, our rapidly growing research programs are led by distinguished neurologists and neuroscientists. Our department conducts both laboratory and clinical research in epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, Alzheimer’s Disease, headache, neuromuscular diseases, and neuroimmunology. In addition, we have a robust clinical trials program to test novel therapies for neurologic disorders. These programs provide training opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows, while also advancing our understanding of the mechanisms of neurologic disease, improving our diagnostic and neuroimaging capabilities, and developing a wider array of neurotherapeutics.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and/or conduct psychometric testing specific to clinical research study protocols.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct patient record searches for study specific inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Coordinate with providers for purposes of determining eligibility.
  • Conduct data collection specific to the study protocol.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in research databases of all study data and collaborates with study staff in creating and maintaining databases to ensure thorough data management.
  • Support study staff in the conduct of clinical trials by the maintenance of the inventory of laboratory testing supplies.
  • Make subject appointments in the clinical research unit.
  • Analyze data, write research progress reports including summarizing test results of participating investigators, assist in the preparation and writing of papers for publication; assist in writing reports.
  • May supervise, monitor or coordinate work of subordinates.
  • Occasional out-of-state travel may be required.
  • Develop source documents and other data collection/tracking tools, as needed.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection, analysis, and skill in their application.
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Skill in report writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work within a team.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Previous experience working with adults with neurocognitive disorders.
  • Previous experience administering standardized tests, in a one-on-one or patient/caregiver environment.
Full Time/Part Time To be determined.
