Position Summary

This position will assist in processing of tissues for histologic evaluation.

The Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is a part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at The University of Arizona. The AzVDL is accredited for all species by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Identifies and records tissue samples
• Processes tissue samples by dehydration, embedding, cutting, staining, special staining procedures, decalcification, and frozen cyrostat methods
• Maintains slide storage and filing systems
• Grosses in surgical and necropsy pathology specimens for processing
• Requisitions supplies and maintains inventory for the laboratory
• Maintains laboratory equipment and acts as liaison with maintenance contractors.
• Monitors and records temperatures of laboratory equipment.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of college with courses in Biology and Chemistry or eligibility for registration as a Histotechnologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) AND one year of experience sectioning and staining tissue and bone marrow; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience in tissue sectioning and staining
  • Experience in grossing of veterinary surgical and necropsy tissue specimens.
