This is an annually appointed, benefits eligible position in the University of Arizona Athletics Department, Clinical and Sport Psychology Services department. The prime function of this position is to provide clinical psychology and performance optimization services to student-athletes. This position is responsible for psychological evaluation and treatment, individualize performance consultation, crisis intervention and management, team/coach consultation, preventative programming, and coordination of clinical referrals for care. The position reports directly to the Director of Clinical and Sport Psychology Services.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide individual clinical assessment, psychological treatment, and case management for student-athletes
• Assess and respond to crisis intervention with individuals and groups within the athletic department
• Coordinate referrals to outside resources for mental health and AOD services for student-athletes
• Participate in multi-disciplinary team within the athletic department in the management of student-athletes with significant mental health issues, disordered eating, etc.
• Assist in the development and implementation of student-athlete programming for leadership, development, personal growth and health and wellness
• Establish relationships with university and community mental health providers
• Enhance awareness of mental health issues impacting student-athletes
• Provide individual performance optimization consultation sessions
• Deliver team sport psychology sessions
• Remain available for coach and administrative consultation
• Medical documentation and record keeping
• Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the NCAA, PAC12 Conference, University of Arizona and the University of Arizona Department of Athletics
• Adhere to the APA Code of Ethics and statues of the State of Arizona
• Participate in special projects, committees, or other initiatives as assigned
• Represent the University of Arizona and the UA Department of Athletics at University, State, Regional, National, and International conferences and/or meetings, as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical and Sport Psychology Services

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology upon hire.
• Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Psychologist
• Demonstrated ability to provide treatment and/or consultation that spans the spectrum of care for student-athletes ranging from debilitating emotional distress to optimization of performance
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully and appropriately with diverse populations in the Department, University and the community
• Excellent written and electronic communication
• Capable of handling multiple tasks in a high stress environment
• Able to accurately interpret and adhere to NCAA and PAC12 Conference rules, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, University of Arizona and the Department of Athletics polices, and Arizona psychologist licensure statutes

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in sport, higher education, or other related setting
• Advanced training in sport psychology (e.g., Association for Applied Sport Psychology Certified Consultant, member of the USOC sport psychology registry, APA Division 47 Fellow Status) preferred
• Knowledge and understanding of unique aspects of student-athlete population
• Knowledge and understanding of eating disorders/disordered eating – assessment and treatment
• Knowledge of, and ability to conduct, AOD assessments, and ability to work with the student-athlete population on these issues
• Knowledge and understanding of working with diverse and multicultural populations
