The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual that wants to join a team-oriented lab carrying out research in the area of Lung Fibrosis (IPF) and drug discovery in the University of Arizona Pulmonary department. This position would involve training in and implementation of our cutting-edge drug development project. This opportunity is ideal for a recent college graduate interested in pursuing a career in science or medicine or an individual interested in a long-term career as a Research Specialist.

This position will be responsible for maintaining mouse colonies, performing basic molecular biology and protein analysis including western blotting, protein expression, protein purification, etc. Experience working with mice and basic genotyping skills are a significant plus, but the willingness to learn is sufficient. Organizational skills and significant prior experience in a research lab are strongly preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct tissue cell culture work and testing of experimental drugs in cells and mice.
  • Maintain mouse record and inventory, genotyping and basic husbandry.
  • Conduct experiments including western immunoblotting.
  • Maintain and organize experimental equipment such as Microplate reader, centrifuges, gel and western blot apparatus, and imaging equipment.
  • Independently manage and direct various aspects of laboratory, including safety.
  • Maintain detailed records of studies conducted, organize data, and prepare data for manuscript submissions.
  • Conduct library searches to find research information on related procedures and techniques that can be used in the laboratory.
  • Assist with management of lab finances.
  • Order supplies as needed.

Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three years of related research experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and four years of related research experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

  • Experience with animal care protocol writing.
  • Molecular and cellular biology experience.
