Position Summary

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education.

Dr. Nathan Ellis, Cancer Biology Program director, and Dr. Daruka Mahadevan, Director of the Phase I Clinical Trials Program, invites qualified candidates to apply for this position. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or a strong background in biochemistry, namely, protein expression and purification, biophysical techniques, biochemical assay design and implementation, cell culture and molecular biology.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute research experiments with guidance from lab staff.
  • Create and manipulate gene expression constructs.
  • Carry out protein expression and purification.
  • Perform DNA-based assays.
  • Measure binding of small molecules to proteins.
  • Perform and monitor small molecule treatments of culture cells.
  • Collect and analyze data generated from the various techniques.
  • Assisting with the design of experiments and trouble-shooting problems encountered.
  • Present data to laboratory staff and lab directors.
  • Maintain responsibility for overall daily management of laboratory as needed.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work in experimental research.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
