This position is for a Postdoctoral Research Associate I to participate in studies related to molecular and cellular biology of NHE8 transporters in physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Work will involve cell culture, immunological, molecular biological procedures and animal experiments. This position is located in the NIH-funded gastrointestinal research labs at the Steele Children’s Research Center.

• Breed mouse colonies.

• Design and perform experiments.

• Purify RNA/DNA/protein from collected tissue samples for detecting gene and protein expression via Real-Time PCR and western blotting.

• Measure NHE8 activity with intracellular pH measurement method in cultured gut epithelial cells.

• Isolate intestinal crypts for organoid culture

• Maintain human and mouse intestinal organoids.

• Collect and analyze data generated from above experiments.

• Communicate and cooperate with lab members, including the potential to supervise undergraduate students, graduate students, and technicians.

• Review literature to develop new concepts and research procedures.

• Maintains detailed records of all experiments performed to ensure that policy/procedures are followed.

• Prepare manuscripts for publication.

• Skills on computer programs including Excel, Quantity One, PowerPoint, etc.

• Excellent writing and communication skills

• MD and/or PhD degree in Molecular Biology or Physiology.

• Experience with NHE study, animal model, and molecular biological techniques
