Position Summary

The Senior Coordinator is a full ­time position for a collaboratively-minded professional who is passionate about creating and executing opportunities for students to integrate and apply their disciplinary knowledge, self-knowledge and practical knowledge through experiential learning. The Senior Coordinator will work in the Student Engagement program area within the Student Engagement & Career Development unit whose mission is to ensure the University of Arizona inspires and prepares all graduates to create lives of opportunity aligned with their purpose and values.

The Senior Coordinator plays a key role in implementing the UA’s signature 100% Engagement initiative. This is the UA’s commitment to offer every undergraduate student an applied learning experience to address authentic challenges facing our communities and/or businesses. These experiences are designed to ensure students connect their knowledge and skills to the mark they want to make in the world. The UA recognizes for-credit and co-curricular experiences, such as internships, research, study abroad, significant applied learning projects taken in a class, student employment opportunities and more, through an Engaged Learning Experience notation on the student transcript.

The Senior Coordinator will interact professionally and supportively with staff, faculty and students across campus seeking information about how to get involved in this initiative. In particular, this position supports the participation of Colleges and Departments through efforts to develop, promote and track approved co-curricular engagement experiences.

The Senior Coordinator also supports the development and expansion of innovative Student Engagement and Career Development skill-building programming including Fast Track and Build the Skill and Design Thinking Challenges which address both technical and soft skills applications.

The Senior Coordinator will be a great communicator, highly organized, flexible, innovative and both attentive to detail and interested in how those details fit into the bigger picture. Most importantly, this individual will create and execute events and programs that inspire campus-wide participation in engaged learning. Work may include evening and weekend hours.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate student programming to support and inspire students to engage in learning experiences within and beyond the classroom that build their skills, provides them with direct experience and reflection that positively impacts their professional development and plans to pursue graduate school or professional careers;
  • Coordinate and support development of skill-building programs, including Fast Track, Build the Skill, and Design Thinking Challenges, including targeted outreach, student enrollment, and program facilitation;
  • Hire, train and supervise Student Engagement Ambassadors to conduct outreach that increases student awareness of the benefits and opportunities offered by the initiative;
  • Assist with development and coordinate receipt of and response to proposals for approval of non-credit experiences and strategic investment from campus departments;
  • Maintain database of approved non-credit experiences in the UAccess system;
  • Train colleagues in use of UAccess tool for tracking non-credit student engagement;
  • Manage Studio 248 space in the Student Union, including scheduling of meetings and facilities, and reservation requests;
  • Represent Student Engagement at campus and community events;
  • Facilitate meetings and activities of the Student Engagement Committee;
  • Supervise student staff including hiring, training and on-going professional development;
  • Coordinate and assist with marketing campaigns;
  • Maintain and update Student Engagement website;
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department and University goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years of experience or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
  • Self-motivated; comfortable working with a team and independently
  • Ability to foster an open and collaborative work environment
  • Masters Degree in related field
  • Understanding of the goals and objectives of UA Student Engagement & Career Development
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of university resources, as well as policies and procedures
