Position Summary

The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (SACBS) is currently seeking a motivated candidate for the position of Farm Attendant at the Equine Center, located at Campbell Avenue and Roger Road within the Campus Ag Center. This position provides hands-on support for the Equine Center. The primary focus of this position is to provide care and training for the Arabian horse herd housed at the Campus Ag Center.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee and provide health care for the resident Arabian horse herd, which includes stallions, mares, and foals.
  • Perform routine maintenance of facilities used by Arabian horses.
  • Feeding, cleaning stalls, and grooming of Arabian horses.
  • Exercising and training of Arabian horses owned by the University of Arizona including halter training, saddling, bridling, riding, etc.
  • Assists with the handling of Arabian stallions, mares, and foals including attending to mares and foals during and after foaling.
  • Assist manager with equine breeding management of Arabian horses including live cover, artificial insemination, cooled semen, and general reproductive management practices associated with mare and stallion care.
  • Other duties as assigned for care of the Arabian horse herd.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to drive a truck and trailer.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Experience handling and working with horses.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid Arizona driver’s license and the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Must be able to maintain flexible schedule in order to be available outside normal business/ work hours.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

No prior experience required. May require possession of a current Arizona Type D driver’s license, upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years of subject work.
  • Experience working with young horses.
  • Experience training young horses under saddle.
