In 2014, Institutional Research and Business Intelligence at the University of Arizona merged into a single operational unit, University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR), in order to better serve the data needs of this campus with its strong culture for data informed decision making. Today, UAIR is working to move beyond transactional, operational, and mandatory reporting to increasingly provide sophisticated analytics, modeling, interactive dashboards, and visualizations that empower campus decision makers, inform policy and practice, and tell the UA story.

The University of Arizona seeks a qualified individual for the position of Analyst on the Business team within UAIR. Reporting to the Associate Director of Business Intelligence, this Analyst is responsible for developing, preparing, analyzing and presenting quantitative institutional information and for responding to both internal and external data requirements/requests. This position will provide technical expertise to address campus planning and decision support needs. The person in this position will focus on analyses related to employee, financial, and research data. This person will manage projects in all phases of the data analysis pipeline, including querying databases, conducting statistical analyses, and producing visualizations of the results.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Extract and manage data from University databases, including Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM).
• Extract and manage data from external databases, including IPEDS and the AAU Data Exchange warehouse.
• Develop and maintain University reports on faculty salaries, diversity, and other human capital related metrics.
• Develop and maintain peer benchmarking reports.
• Provide human capital data for reports to external agencies, including the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), and the Association of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE).
• Support internal and vendor-based predictive analytics projects.
• Collect, prepare, analyze and report data in response to both internal and external data requirements/requests.
• Assist with data preparation and analysis for UA leadership.
• Provide technical support for the UA and ABOR strategic planning processes regarding human capital issues.
• Operational reporting on Financial, Student, and HR data.
• Data quality management of institutional data in the warehouse environment.
• Serve as a key member of the University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR) team.
• Enable UAIR to be a strategic partner of the university community.
• Provide technical direction and guidance in requirements gathering; tenets of dimensional modeling, business intelligence best practices, ETL concepts, Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) architecture and repository management, SQL, relational database theory, and query performance considerations.
• Support the University goal of establishing a comprehensive data support infrastructure by being a knowledge analyst in financial, student, and HR data.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ demonstrated work experience in a related discipline with credentials related to mathematics, statistics, data modeling and quantitative data analysis.
• Advanced statistical knowledge and Microsoft Excel.
• Experiences using R, SPSS, or SAS.
• Experience using data querying tools and SQL.
• Excellent technical knowledge developing queries and reports from relational databases.
• Demonstrated experience working with complex data in a relational database environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in descriptive and inferential statistics and research methodologies.
• Familiarity with predictive modeling.
• Familiarity with Tableau.
• Demonstrated capability with respect to data modeling, quantitative data analysis, trend analysis, and professional report preparation. Excellent critical thinking, analytical, logical problem solving, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Ability to present complex data in a succinct, meaningful way to a variety of audiences.
• Resourcefulness, flexibility, responsiveness and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage concurrent projects in an environment filled with competing priorities.
• Knowledge of higher education.
• Demonstrated experience inspiring teams to deliver data models of complex data sets that are accurate and responsive.
• Experience with Business Intelligence (conception, design, implementation, and support).
• Experience with Data warehouse (conception, design, implementation, and support).
• Experience working with financial, student, and HR data.
• Experience working with research-related financial data.
• Knowledge of Kuali Financial, PeopleSoft Student and Human Capital Management data structures.
