Position Summary

A Research Specialist position in organic chemistry is open immediately at the Wang laboratory at the University of Arizona. The Wang laboratory is interested in drug discovery with focus on infectious diseases such as influenza, dengue, and zika. For more information please check www.u.arizona.edu/~junwangua. We are looking for an organic chemist to join our multidisciplinary team. The chosen candidate will carry out multi-step organic synthesis and structure-activity relationship studies, and work closely with biochemists to facilitate lead optimization.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Multi-step organic synthesis.
  • Structure-activity relationship studies.
  • PK optimization.
  • Maintain chemical safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with biochemists.
  • Grant and manuscript writing.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • General knowledge about retro-synthesis design, multi-step organic synthesis, compound purification and characterization (1D and 2D NMR, MS).

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with multi-step organic synthesis or medicinal chemistry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
