Position Summary

The AZ Student Unions, is seeking a part-time Materials Handler to join our team. This position will be 30 hours a week with benefits. This position performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies to various units across campus. Incumbents may handle high-dollar and fragile equipment or supplies and hazardous materials, such as chemicals or gases, when necessary. May be required to lift heavy objects.

This is an academic year position. The current academic year is August 14, 2017 through May 20, 2018. Employee will be off for the summer months.

The Arizona Student Unions consist of both the Student Union Memorial Center (SUMC) and the Park Student Union, as well as Highland Market and a number of convenience stores and food stops around campus. In addition to campus dining services and catering, the Arizona Student Unions also run mall scheduling, concessions at athletic events, Fast Copy & Design, the Union Galleries, Games Room, the Gallagher Theatre, and a Post Office Contract Unit.

The Student Union Memorial Center is one of the largest student unions in the United States. The SUMC contains everything students need – restaurants, retail spaces, a bank, lounges, study/meeting rooms, a computer lab, art gallery, and a movie theater. SUMC is often referred to as the “living room” of the University. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Fills orders and loads truck with items requested by convenience stores across campus.
  • Delivers orders to units in a timely manner according to current delivery schedule.
  • Delivers mail to and from units.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors/leads in various units to ensure their needs are being met.
  • Keeps trucks, golf cart and other equipment fueled and cleaned.
  • Reports any mechanical problems to supervisor.
  • Provides quality customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Frequently reaches, bends, lifts, carries and pushes.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of record keeping practices.
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Ability to lift and transfer a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license at time of employment and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

One year of shipping/receiving experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Some positions may require possession of a current Arizona Type D driver’s license (Commercial Driver’s License with hazardous material endorsement) upon employment. Some positions may require state certification in forklift operation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Skill in operating pallet jacks or other materials handling equipment.
  • One year of shipping/receiving experience.
