Position Summary

The Career Educator is on the front lines of Student Engagement and Career Development as a member of a coordinated, supportive team of educators who guide students in planning, preparing and implementing strategies to explore options, find jobs, and navigate careers that align with their purpose and values. The Career Educator will help shape the attitudes, motivations and behaviors that will lead Wildcats to long term career success. Student Engagement and Career Development’s mission is to ensure the University of Arizona inspires and prepares all graduates to create lives of opportunity and aligned with their purpose and values.

This individual will have focus on direct student contact as well as developing and coordinating student-facing support services, online resources, programs and events that match the needs of students throughout the career development lifecycle, from Self & Career Exploration to Preparing for the Job Search Process to Navigating & Managing their Career. The Career Educator will also help create a community of support for students, connecting with academic and divisional partners to communicate opportunities and deliver career preparation content and programming.

Duties & Responsibilities

Direct Student Support (60-70%)
• Facilitate career education in both small group and 1:1 settings including open appointments, workshops, career educator-on-call (walk-ins during normal business hours), and online environments.
• Support Peer Education team in facilitating Resume Lab as necessary.
• Develop and deliver interactive, developmentally appropriate presentations, workshops and programs on in-demand career lifecycle topics, with measurable, clearly-stated learning outcomes/calls to engagement for the students.
• Draw upon or develop particular areas of expertise (i.e. internship-readiness, student employment, expertise in a particular industry, etc.) to create and manage specialized programming for particular student populations.
• Create and implement educational campaigns to enhance awareness and use of career preparation resources.

Events & Programming (10-15%)
• Prepare and customize curriculum related to programs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert working with a team including a curricular specialist and instructional designer to create course materials (credit and non-credit).
• Support special projects to advance the long-term vision for Leadership and Career Education, specifically to scale and expand a collaborative campus model for cutting-edge career and professional development, engage the campus career community at the direction of the Associate Director and Senior Director.
• Staff and plan logistics of department events under areas of responsibility with support of administrative team; support and attend other departmental unit events as needed.

Administrative (10-15%)
• Assist with departmental assessment and evaluate program effectiveness for programs, including recording data and creating reports in Handshake, our online career platform.
• Represent the Department on university committees and at conferences as needed and assigned.
• Participate in at least 2-3 webinars or other professional development opportunities and share learning with the team, by request or at the direction of the Associate Director and/or Senior Director.
• Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department and University goals and objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field and 2 years of experience in career advising or career education, leadership education or talent acquisition, or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, education, human resources management or closely-related field; or Master’s in progress with 1-2 years of industry experience.
• Experience with providing programming, self-assessment, career development and/or academic coaching to students and/or staff
• Experience creating and delivering engaging presentations and workshops
• Interest and experience in working with diverse student populations to engage them in exploration activities and workforce preparation
• Demonstrated leadership and management abilities in a team environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of higher education principles and practices
• Understanding of the goals and objectives of UA Career Services
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of university resources, as well as policies and procedures
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to foster an open and collaborative work environment
