The University of Arizona is accepting applications for a Security Architect, Principal. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, this position will play a key role in recommending and implementing information security solutions for the University of Arizona, as well as building a security analytics program. Duties include evaluating, planning, and designing security systems and processes that will enhance the ability of the UA to meet its mission and goals. This position will also provide technical expertise for other Information Security Office initiatives. Responsibilities include collaboration with distributed campus IT organizations to ensure consistency of products, procedures and response to incidents. Serves as the senior technical security resource for the University.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Evaluate, recommend, and provide technical leadership for the implementation of security measures to protect information systems, networks, and data.
•Contribute security expertise to discussions and planning for overall IT architecture for the University, ensuring security is a foundational concept.
•Provide security domain expertise and leadership for distributed campus IT security managers.
•Primary responsibility for designing and implementing a security analytics program.
•Future responsibilities will likely include supervision of team members.
•Related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

•Requires expert knowledge of security systems architecture and engineering.
•Must possess excellent analytical skills and an understanding of a risk-based approach to securing institutional resources.
•Experience with Windows, Linux/UNIX, network systems, databases, and virtual and cloud computing environments.
•Strong IT system and application engineering background.
•Strong working knowledge of security issues pertinent to higher education.
•Hands on experience with security products such as Qualys, Sophos, Splunk, etc.
•Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
•Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Initiative, optimism, flexibility, integrity and follow through.
•Ability to advocate, influence, and persuade others.

Minimum Qualifications

•Requires Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 5 years related experience or substantially equivalent educational and job related experience.
•Evidence of effective skills in facilitation, creative problem solving and a team-based approach to achieving success in a highly technical environment.
•Excellent analytical, time management, organizational, and supervisory skills.

Preferred Qualifications

•Five or more years of experience in security engineering and architecture.
•Experience working in higher education.
•Hands-on experience with a security analytics tool such as Splunk.
•Evidence of continued formal or self-directed education to maintain technical currency.
