The Systems Administrator, Senior will join a small, but talented team within University Information Technology Services (UITS) to provide administrative and operational server support for UA’s enterprise services on Windows OS. Responsibilities include incident, change, configuration and problem management for typical Windows services plus university implementations of Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft Office 365 and Docuware in a 24/7 operation.

The sys admin will be responsible for the testing and optimizing software, designing, provisioning, monitoring and maintenance of enterprise level system environments to ensure availability, performance and security.

The University of Arizona is moving towards cloud services. The person in this position will assist in evaluating current University of Arizona Windows based solutions to identify services that would benefit from leveraging cloud offerings. They will also be responsible for deploying new service offerings on cloud-based platforms when appropriate.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Administer physical and virtual servers in a large, heterogeneous Windows/Unix environment.
•Implement and use monitoring and reporting tools that allow for preventative action.
•Test software including the impact of software updates and patches.
•Troubleshoot hardware and software systems.
•Optimize systems performance.
•Implement and document NIST 800-171 security control.
•Maintain data recoverability. Implement data backup and disaster recovery procedures.
•Provide third tier support for tickets, email and phone requests.
•Participate in planning for system development and expansion.
•Manage projects of limited scope or portions of large and/or complex projects.
•Participate in on-call rotations.
•Assume and perform other duties and responsibilities not specifically outlined herein, but which are logically and properly inherent to the position.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

•Experience deploying, administering and supporting Windows based servers and services in current cloud platforms (i.e. Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure).
•Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Desktop, and Active Directory Administration.
•Familiarity with NIST 800-53 and/or NIST 800-171 security frameworks.
•Experience working with AWS and cloud formation.
•Ability to work with ITAR data.
•Experience with Windows and UNIX interoperability.
•Strong analytical and independent problem solving skills.
•Self-motivated, results-oriented, attentive to detail, and have a positive demeanor.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Five years of progressively responsible system administration and/or programming experience including the installation, testing and maintenance of hardware, operating and applications systems and utilities; OR Associate’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Technology or related field AND four years of progressively responsible system administration and/or programming experience including the installation, testing and maintenance of hardware, operating and applications systems and utilities; OR, Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Technology or related field AND two years of progressively responsible system administration and/or programming experience including the installation, testing and maintenance of hardware, operating and applications systems and utilities; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

•3+ years as a Systems Administrator utilizing Windows Operating systems for a large networked environment.
•Experience with VMware Infrastructure.
•Experience with Splunk.
•Familiarity with risk management framework.
•Experience with Role Based Access Controls and tenants of least privilege access.
•Experience with Microsoft System Center product suite.
•Experience with creating, maintaining and deploying workstation and server images using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).
•Intermediate/Advanced PowerShell scripting experience.
•Experience with vulnerability scanning and/or penetration testing.
•Experience administering Microsoft Clustering Services including geographically dispersed clusters.
•Experience in a 24×7 support environment.
