Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Alumni Careers and Professional Development, this individual coordinates initiatives to provide relevant professional development, networking, and mentoring opportunities to alumni (via in-person and digital platforms), focusing on program communications and event management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Events, Communications, Social Media:

  • Represent UAAA career initiatives at events; assist with UAAA-wide events (e.g. Homecoming).
  • Coordinate alumni career events (online and in-person networking events, career fairs, and professional development webinars). Correspond with presenters and attendees, arrange space and food, and manage other logistics.
  • Together with UAAA’s marketing and communications team:
    • Assist in developing and executing a marketing plan for alumni career events and programs; advertise alumni career events using social media, website, email, and campus and alumni chapter networks.
    • Write, edit, and send monthly career e-newsletter; query Raiser’s Edge to create segmented email lists for customized communications.
    • Manage alumni career services social media, including Twitter and LinkedIn; develop and implement strategies to engage alumni, students, and employers through social media.
    • Update content on the Career section of Alumni Association website; update UAAA events calendar with career events.
    • Write and/or edit career-related alumni success stories and professional development webinar re-caps for website and newsletters. With UAAA Communications team, pitch stories to UA News and other outlets to raise the profile of the program.

Employer and Alumni Relations:

  • Provide excellent customer service to alumni and others in response to phone, email, and in-person inquiries. Support alumni in understanding and accessing career resources.
  • Respond to employer inquiries. Assist employers with advertising opportunities to alumni.
  • As part of the UA Alumni Association Engagement team, assist in collaborating with college and campus units to promote the Alumni Careers and Professional Development program and find opportunities for joint programming.
  • Collaborate with UA Student Engagement and Career Development to ensure a continuum of services in the lifecycle of student to alumni.
  • Enter employer contacts into a career services manager platform and/or Raiser’s Edge; update employer information from emails and business cards.
  • Maintain updated alumni records in Raiser’s Edge. Ensure that alumni contact and career information from events is entered into Raiser’s Edge.
  • Assist with the stewardship and cultivation of alumni volunteers and donors.
    Program Coordination
  • Provide general program support and assist Director with developing and reaching program goals.
  • Perform assessment functions such as record keeping and reporting of alumni career events and programs. Assess and analyze events and programs, and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain records of alumni job seekers and career volunteers.
  • Compile and track data about alumni participation.

Other duties:

  • Assist with UAAA department events (Career Fairs, Homecoming), which will require attendance at evening and weekend events.
  • This position requires occasional overnight travel.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Understanding of and excitement for the mission of the UA Alumni Association how this position contributes to fulfilling it.
  • Great attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • Excellent writing skills. Able to write grammatically correct, compelling, on-brand, and platform-appropriate posts, articles, and communications.
  • Ability to work independently, and demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituents and audiences.
  • High degree of professionalism and a customer-service orientation; able to interact professionally and responsively with alumni and employers.
  • High degree of comfort with technology. Ability to quickly develop proficiency in constituent management software such as Raiser’s Edge and career management systems such as Handshake. Ability to learn HTML and content management systems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to attend evening events and occasional overnight travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience using technology in the delivery of career-related services.
  • Prior knowledge of and experience in delivering career services and career programs; event planning and delivery; data management.
  • Prior experience and proficiency with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms). Ability to use of social media as a tool to engage and market services/programs to students, alumni, faculty/staff and employers.
  • Experience with event planning and management.
