Position Summary

University Information Technology Services (UITS) at the University of Arizona is recruiting for an Executive Director of Administrative Technologies. Reporting to the Vice President for Information Strategy and University Libraries (VPISUL), the selected candidate will be a key member of the Executive Leadership team responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, and delivery of technology to support the university’s administration as they support the business operations of a $2 billion higher education enterprise. The successful candidate will be an established leader with a demonstrated record of accomplishment, preferably in a complex organization with higher education experience.

The Executive Director of Administrative Technologies is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and management across a broad range of systems and services supporting the business and administrative needs of the institution. This portfolio includes the Peoplesoft Human Capital Management and Peoplesoft Enterprise Learning Management systems, the Kuali Financials and Kuali Research Administration systems, and Mobile Application Development.

Our IT leadership aligns closely with our Business Affairs division and acts as their enabler for leveraging technology to advance their mission. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to think broadly about the current and future needs of the institution, its faculty and staff, and be able to comprehend the services and support we provide through the lenses of various stakeholders. In general, this position will play a leadership role in attending to the whole ecosystem of systems and technologies that serve the university’s business community, including those that are not the direct responsibility of this position.

UITS is a $50M organization of approximately 230 people responsible for providing enterprise network, telecommunications, computing, and data services to the University of Arizona. UITS offers a broad array of services to the university community ranging from the deployment and management of the campus’ state-of-the-art wired and wireless networks to the stewardship of the administrative applications that support the HR, payroll, finance, and student lifecycle management activities of the institution. Also, UITS recently unveiled its next-generation high performance computing environment to support the computationally-intensive needs of UA research faculty.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Provide strategic leadership, direction, management and supervision for administrative technologies, while also bringing energy and a sense of mission to this department.
•Collaboratively create a shared vision for the administrative systems ecosystem.
•Facilitate the strategic and tactical planning to realize the vision.
•Manage the following teams and technologies within UITS, including:
•Human Resources (PeopleSoft Human Capital Management)
•Employee Learning (PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management)
•Financial Management (Kuali Financials)
•Research Administration (Kuali Research)
•Mobile Application Development Technologies
•Act as steward to the governance structures and processes associated with business-related systems.
•Participate in the development and administration of a shared vision and evolving strategy for UITS information technology, based on campus priorities.
•Play a pivotal role in developing a new campus IT strategic plan.
•Anticipate, initiate and respond to changes in the environment, and keeps abreast of trends that impact higher education and that ensure UITS and the University achieve their goals.
•Embrace ambiguity in a changing environment and commit to continual professional development, improvement, and learning for all staff.
•Manage the department budget.
•Provide overall UITS leadership as part of the UITS executive leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications

UITS’ Executive Director of Administrative Technologies will possess, at a minimum, the following qualifications:
•A Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field; and 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education
•Extensive knowledge in and understanding of enterprise business operations and the systems required to support these at a dynamic, complex organization.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Collaborative leadership style.
•Initiative, optimism, flexibility, integrity and follow through.

Preferred Qualifications

•An advanced degree in Management Information Systems or related field
•An understanding of enterprise business operations and the systems required to support these at a dynamic, complex higher education institution.
•Effective at managing own time and time of others with high volume workloads
10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility in a large complex institute of higher education or non-profit organization.
