Position Summary

As a member of the University Development Program (UDP), the Assistant Director of Stewardship will be essential in helping the University reach its goal of doubling fundraising by 2024. Working in partnership with the Director of Stewardship and other key members of UDP, the assistant director will assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive, University-wide plan that acknowledges, recognizes, and reports impact to the University of Arizona’s donors. Specifically, this position will be instrumental in the implementation of policies and procedures for donor recognition, gift impact reporting and scholarship stewardship.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate key components of the University-wide stewardship program with focus on recognition, reporting and scholarships.
  • Partner with the Director to establish and implement short-term and long-term donor relations/stewardship goals and objectives.
  • Manage the UDP acknowledgement process and ensure donors receive timely and appropriate correspondence. This involves working closely with UDP Development Units across campus to ensure an integrated approach and leading routine evaluations and improvements to the UDP Acknowledgement Standards and Guidelines.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a process for UDP recognition activities such as plaques, signage, etc.
  • Manage the preparation and distribution of impact reports both as part of the Annual Endowment Report and as needed/requested by donors and UDP colleagues.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure named endowed fund contacts and recipients are identified and updated in the donor database and other documents when appropriate. This includes named fund contacts, endowed fund position holders, and endowed fund fellowship recipients.
  • Manage the Old Main recognition program, ensuring recognition opportunities are delivered in a timely manner. Ensures new members are welcomed.
  • Assess scholarship stewardship practices across the UDP and work with the Director to develop processes to ensure consistent stewardship to include recipient correspondence, notifications, and processes to track scholarship recipients in the donor database. Also works closely with UDP colleagues and Scholarship Universe staff to populate the Donor Spotlight with scholarship donor stories.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a process to build a donor story archive.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information in a discrete and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders with diplomacy and tact.
  • Develop and strengthen project management expertise.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with donors, development colleagues, and UA faculty and staff members.
  • Ability to inspire cooperation and participation.
  • Ability to maintain donor confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand and follow UA, UAF, and UDP policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND;
  • Four (4) years’ of progressively responsible development experience;
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge or Blackbaud CRM.
  • Experience working within an academic setting or large, complex institution.
  • Familiar with UA campus.
